Guidelines For Net Controllers 

Arrange for a radio check prior to starting the net.

Avoid lengthy exercises and keep messages to 25 words max.

Ensure you acknowledge all stations who check in.

If dispatching stations to team frequencies assign any non team operators to a suitable team and have one station stay on repeater frequency.



ECT NET PREAMBLE

This is <your call> calling the Cowichan Valley – ECT  Emergency Communications Team Net.
 
Net Control this evening is < your call >, my name is <your name> and I am located in <your location>, Zone 1.

This Net meets each Monday at 1900 hours local time. The purpose of this Net is to provide ECT members with training in emergency communications procedures, emergency preparedness, and traffic handling. All stations are encouraged to utilize battery power or have emergency power at their stations. Stations are also encouraged to utilize whatever transmit power is required to carry out clean effective communications with the Net Controller. All traffic is welcome.

This is a directed Net and there are no designated relay stations on this Net. The Net controller will periodically ask if there are any relays so stand by and do not transmit (an offer of a relay) until instructed to do so by the Net control station. 

Emergency traffic will always be recognized immediately. If there is emergency traffic at any point, all stations are asked to standby and allow the Net controller to handle the traffic unless instructed otherwise.

When checking into this ECT Net, please state your call sign phonetically, your first name, your geographic or regional location and the Team you are assigned to. Roll call is as follows:

  • I will take check-ins from the ECT Unit Leader or Deputy <please call now>.
  • I will now check-in the CVRD Communications Group Coordinator <please call now>.
  • I will now check-in the ECC operators or technicians <please call now>.
  • I will now check-in any Bellingham or Whatcom County ARES operators <please call now>.

  • I will take check-ins from the Team Leaders or the Deputy:  Zone 1, Zone 2, Zone 3 and Zone 4 <call each zone>.

  • I will take check-ins from stations in Zone 2 at this time.
  • I will take check-ins from stations in Zone 3 at this time.
  • I will take check-ins from stations in Zone 4 at this time.
